Williams contributed significantly to Spain's victory at UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany following an outstanding 2023–24 campaign in which he made 37 appearances and assisted Athletic Club in winning the 2024 Copa del Rey.

SPORT revealed this week that Athletic Club is keen to extend Williams' contract, particularly in light of other European teams' interest. Barcelona is still keeping an eye on him as a possible target, but only if his €60 million release clause is upheld. During the summer transfer window, two Blaugrana players attempted to convince Williams to sign with Barcelona, he disclosed in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
