According to rumors, Punjab Kings is set to hire former India opener Wasim Jaffer as its head coach in the most recent IPL 2025 development. The 46-year-old will reportedly rejoin the Punjab Kings lineup in place of Trevor Bayliss, whose two-year deal expires after the 2024 Indian Premier League, according to an Indian Express article. Jaffer was the batting coach for PBKS from 2019 to 2021. Later on, they hired him as a batting consultant as well, but he resigned before the IPL 2024 auction.

The only time the Preity Zinta-owned team has been close to winning a trophy in the lucrative league was in 2014, when they fell to Kolkata Knight Riders in the championship game. There were rumors a few days ago that PBKS was trying to hire an Indian coach to take Bayliss' job. Jaffer and the club are now in advanced negotiations, although no formal announcement has been made as of yet.
