Rohit Sharma set to miss India’s first Test against Australia

With Rohit Sharma set to miss India’s first Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has weighed in on one of the team’s most pressing issues

With Rohit Sharma set to miss the opening Test against Australia in the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has voiced his concerns over India’s leadership strategy. Following a landmark whitewash against New Zealand, Gavaskar has urged the BCCI to appoint a permanent captain for the series instead of relying on a temporary solution.

The five-match series, starting on November 22 in Perth, requires a steady leader, especially given India’s recent challenges. Rohit Sharma, India’s current Test captain, is reportedly unavailable due to personal reasons, as his wife Ritika Sajdeh is believed to be expecting their second child. In his absence, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is set to take charge, but Gavaskar believes the additional pressure of fluctuating leadership could impact the team’s focus.  To ensure stability, Gavaskar strongly suggested that the BCCI consider a full-time captain if Rohit is unable to rejoin in time.
