Bayer Leverkusen's undefeated streak ends

Bundesliga defending champions Bayer Leverkusen were handed their first Bundesliga loss since May 2023.

Leverkusen lost 3-2 to RB Leipzig at home on Saturday, snapping their 35-game undefeated streak in the top division. Leverkusen grabbed an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo in a heated match that saw visiting coach Marco Rose sent to the stands in the first half. However, Lois Openda leveled the score early in the second half to force a comeback, before that, Kevin Kampl of Leipzig startled Leverkusen with a goal before the break.

With ten minutes remaining, Openda scored once again to give Leipzig a well-earned victory over the league and cup winners from the previous season. Leverkusen's loss put an end to their 43-game domestic undefeated streak that lasted 463 days. This year, Xabi Alonso's club scored 17 goals in the 88th or later minute. They fought to maintain their record, but this time they were unable to equalize.
