Spain upset Germany 2-1

Substitute Mikel Merino has headed Spain into the semifinals at the European Championship as his goal in the final minute of extra time saw La Roja snatch a 2-1 win over Germany

Spain upset Germany 2-1 in extra time on Friday to advance to the European Championship semifinals thanks to a goal from Substitute. Dani Olmo, who assisted Merino in winning the match, had opened the scoring early in the second half. Florian Wirtz's equalizer in the penultimate minute of normal time took the thrilling quarterfinal into extra time. Dani Carvajal, a defender for Spain, was sent off for a second yellow card late in extra time and will miss Tuesday's semifinal matchup against Portugal or France. After receiving another booking, fellow defender Robin le Normand will also miss that game.

German player Toni Kroos, who had said he would retire at the conclusion of the tournament, lost his career as a result of the outcome. The teams that had played the finest soccer at Euro 2024 faced up in the quarterfinal, and it did not dissapoint.
