Empoli holds back Juventus to a scoreless draw

Another disappointing effort by Juventus leaves them with just one point from the match.

Juventus faltered on Saturday following a 0-0 draw with Roma at the start of September's international break. This time, in a dull match at Stadio Carlo Castellani, Empoli, the minnows of Tuscany, held the Bianconeri scoreless.

Encouraged by a plethora of elite summer acquisitions, Juventus went to Tuscany with high hopes. For the first time since 2008, Thiago Motta's team failed to score in an away league game against Empoli, putting up another inconsistent offensive display. Even with a 66% ball possession rate, Juventus was unable to generate enough scoring opportunities against subpar opponents and only managed three efforts on goal. Juventus' all-star front line took against Empoli. Dusan Vlahovic was in front of Teun Koopmeiners and Nicolas Gonzalez, two notable summer additions. However, the strong trio was unable to really challenge Devis Vasquez, the Empoli goalie. Instead, the closest Juventus came to breaching Empoli's defense was through Federico Gatti's header.
