Fernando Alonso praises ‘outstanding’ F1 rivals at Baku

Fernando Alonso praised the “outstanding” level of driving displayed by his Formula 1 rivals at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Baku City Circuit, renowned for its intricate blend of tight corners and high-speed straights, presented a challenging backdrop for last Sunday’s race. The track’s dustiness added an extra layer of difficulty, testing drivers' skill and precision. Despite these hurdles, the race was notable for its competitive intensity and minimal incidents.

The race featured a gripping three-way battle for the win and numerous on-track duels, showcasing the high level of driver commitment. The only significant incident involved Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez on Lap 50, but aside from this, the race was remarkably clean. Fernando Alonso, reflecting on the event, praised the drivers’ risk-taking and precision under the difficult conditions. He highlighted the impressive fact that the race proceeded without a safety car or major accidents, emphasizing the exceptional skill required to navigate such a demanding circuit. For Alonso, the race was a stark contrast to his previous performance in Monza, where he finished in P11 without notable rewards.
