Ruben Amiron is heading for the Manchester United job
Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amiron is heading for the Manchester United job but he could've been the manager of West Ham had talks gone well at the end of last season
The reasons why West Ham turned down the opportunity to hire Ruben Amorim as their manager earlier this year have been revealed to Manchester United.
After winning four of his first nine Premier League games this season, Sporting Lisbon manager Amorim emerged as United's top choice to succeed Erik ten Hag, who was fired on Monday. Amorim has already begun talks with United. At barely 39 years old, Amorim is among the most sought-after managers in Europe. He was strongly favored to take over at Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp unexpectedly announced his resignation in January. However, the story took a turn in April when Amorim headed to London for negotiations with West Ham, a move he soon came to regret as the two sides were unable to come to an understanding. That was a few weeks prior to Sporting's second Primeira Liga championship under Amorim in three years.
