Olympique de Marseille’s 1-0 loss to Stade de Reims

Olympique de Marseille’s prospects of playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season took a hit after a 1-0 loss to Stade de Reims on Wednesday night at Stade Auguste-Delaune.

Marshall Munetsi thought he had given Reims the lead against OM less than five minutes into the game, but a VAR review disallowed his goal and the score stayed 0-0. Reims had three attempts in the first half, but they were unsuccessful in scoring, but they did benefit from a goal by Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba, who gave the home team the lead with an own goal in the 33rd minute.

Les Rouges et Blancs would go into the dressing room leading 1-0 after 45 minutes, despite OM having five shots overall as they attempted to hit the back of the net. Marseille launched a more vigorous onslaught in the second half, producing 14 shots in an effort to tie the score. In the last forty-five minutes, OM launched an attacking assault, but Samba Diawara and his side held strong.
