Bayer Leverkusen wins their first Bundesliga title after 1993
Leverkusen has successfully ended Bayern Munich's reign.
Undefeated Bayer Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga title with a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen, ending Bayern Munich's 11-year league dominance, with five games remaining. Xabi Alonso's club has gone a league-record 29 games without defeat this season to win their first title since 1993. They may add further championships this season after reaching the German Cup final and the Europa League quarterfinals, where they lead West Ham United 2-0 after the first leg.
Leverkusen left nothing to chance and clinched the championship at the first opportunity, with Florian Wirtz scoring a hat trick in a victory that extended their undefeated streak across all competitions to 43 games this season. Xabi Alonso, who took the reins as coach when Leverkusen was relegated in October 2022, remarked on the end of Bayern's domination, that it's healthy for the Bundesliga to have another team to win.
