Inter Milan puts on a masterful display against Atalanta
Inter Milan thrashes Atalanta 4-0
Inter Milan defeated Atalanta 4-0 in a one-sided Serie A match at the San Siro. Marcus Thuram scored twice and Nicolò Barella added a fantastic volley, resulting in a crushing defeat of La Dea. The French attacker opened the scoring with a fortunate deflection off Berat Djimsiti that fooled Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi. Thuram then showed off his predatory instincts in the second half, responding first to a lost ball from a throw-in to make it 3-0 before finishing his brace with an opportunistic finish from close range. Nicolò Barella extended Inter's advantage before halftime with a high-quality goal. The midfielder blasted a powerful left-footed volley from the edge of the box, which sailed into the top corner, giving Carnesecchi no chance.
Despite several promising moments, notably a furious Davide Zappacosta shot that forced Yann Sommer to make a fantastic save, Atalanta never threatened to regain control of the game. Several major absences affected the visitors, notably Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini.
