In a 2-1 battle against Sevilla, Ayoze Perez's goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time gave Villarreal the victory. Arnaut Danjuma's goal two minutes into the game gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. However, the hosts equalized right before the half thanks to a fantastic volleyed finish from Dodi Lukebakio. Diego Conde, who was voted man of the match because of his critical efforts when Perez scored the winner, made numerous fantastic saves to deny Sevilla many of their better opportunities in the second half.

With the victory, Villarreal is now ranked second in the early standings, while Sevilla is still looking for its first win of the year after drawing their season opener against Las Palmas last weekend.
