Verstappen gets closer to a penalty after Red Bull makes a modification

The world champion might be facing a grid penalty after Red Bull made a tweak.

Max Verstappen is drawing closer to an F1 grid penalty after Red Bull decided to install a new gearbox ahead of the Italian GP.  Ahead of the Monza weekend, Red Bull upgraded the #1 with a new gearbox case and cassette, as well as a new gearbox driveline, gear shift components, and other ancillary parts.

Drivers are allowed five examples of the casing/cassette and the driveline, with Verstappen having taken three and four examples previously, respectively.  It means he's now on his fourth casing/cassette and fifth driveline, which might result in a grid penalty. However, unlike in past years, gearboxes do not have to withstand a certain number of races, and outdated parts can be reused. George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Piastri, Lando Norris, Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso, Franco Colapinto, Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Kevin Magnussen, and Nico Hulkenberg have all switched to new internal combustion engines, turbochargers, and MGU-H and MGU-K parts, all without penalty.
