Seven-time Formula 1 world champion is keen to get involved in MotoGP

Liberty Media confirms Lewis Hamilton interest in buying a MotoGP team

After Liberty Media's announcement of its €4.2 billion deal to acquire majority ownership of MotoGP, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton expressed interest in buying a MotoGP team. Liberty hopes to finalize the acquisition by the end of 2024, pending approval from the European Union’s antitrust board. To facilitate the purchase, Liberty recently sold $825 million worth of F1 shares.

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei noted that following the announcement, the firm received significant interest from manufacturers keen to get involved in MotoGP. While rumors swirled that Hamilton, a devoted MotoGP fan, was looking into purchasing the Gresini Racing team, he downplayed these claims, stating he hadn’t delved into the specifics of team ownership. However, during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Maffei confirmed that Hamilton did approach Liberty about team ownership after hearing news of the MotoGP acquisition.
